Implementation of the IB curriculum framework is different in every school and existing school management systems rarely address the special needs of the IB curriculum. As a result, it is difficult to find a suitable and robust management system for an IB world school because there are no assessment, recording and reporting tools developed with the IB curriculum frameworks (like PYP, MYP or DP) in mind. The reason for this is simple: the underlying curriculum framework allows great flexibility for educators in all areas of the holistic learning process. Therefore, standardized software systems that work for other curricula based on marks and grades will not serve the purpose of IB schools where the principles and methods of assessment are markedly different and unique.
However, the need for a software system becomes evident when one considers the sheer volume of IB curriculum framework's student-oriented assessment techniques. It often takes years to implement an IB curriculum framework. Coordinators evolve their own methods of lesson planning and assessments and every facilitator shares his or her work methodology with the rest of the teaching community and even the IBO community at large. Whether a teacher is learning the ropes or is well advanced in the IB world, the need to constantly refer to and update logs, lesson planning or assessment becomes vital in order to take care of every student's special needs.
InquirySys is developed from a core system with modular tools which are designed to encompass the holistic approach to education which is a hallmark of the IB curriculum framework. It is an evolving system which relies on the interconnectedness of all school information related to student's assessments as well as other activities. InquirySys is not a standalone application that performs specific tasks alone it is a total package that comprehensively meets the requirements of schools implementing the IB curriculum. We work with school administrators, coordinators and other key people closely, before implementing the core system or any module of the software. We also constantly think of creative ways to use related information to aid educators and education administrators. Rather than forcing a system on the end user, we work with the knowledge of their working methodologies.
The core of InquirySys contains school community database which includes student, contacts (parents/guardians), sibling information, health records, groupings (eg homeroom, advisory or pastoral groups, etc.), administrative staff, teachers and IB coordinators. In addition it provides the of database of buildings and rooms, centralised information about school, house system and attendance
Customization
The existing core system and modules of InquirySys have been developed with a degree of flexibility that allows for customization by our developers for any upcoming implementation if such a need should arise.
